To celebrate National Science Week, our Office has released ‘The Birrarung is alive’, a film that takes a spectacular journey up the Yarra River.

Happy National Science Week Australia. Here’s to a week that celebrates scientists and researchers. As part of our ongoing work on the State of the Yarra and its Parklands report, we are looking at the diverse groups investigating the beautiful Yarra River. All week we will share some new footage of the mighty Yarra river, a constant source of fascination, inspiration and investigation for all types of scientists.

Our new film ‘The Birrarung is alive’, takes a spectacular journey up the Yarra River. Enjoy never-before-seen footage of how our communities interact with the river and meet some of the unique wildlife that live in and around the river and its parklands.

Take a peek at some of the Yarra River’s unique wildlife including this echidna. To celebrate this #NationalScienceWeek, our Office is releasing a series of remarkable footage along the length of the river that of course includes insights into the wildlife that have made their home here for thousands of years. For the full story, you will have to wait for the release of the inaugural State of the Yarra and its Parklands report in early 2019.

This year’s theme in schools for National Science Week is ‘Game Changers and Change Makers’. This clip highlights the work of the Yarra Riverkeeper Association, real change makers . Case studies are a vital part of the State of the Yarra and its Parklands report which will look at how diverse communities value, use and connect with the Yarra and its Parklands.

Scientists play a pivotal role in the information our Office requires to produce the inaugural State of the Yarra and its Parklands report, due for release in early 2019. Here’s to scientists at work on increasing our understanding of the science of the Yarra River and here is to an inspiring, productive and fun National Science Week.

Thanks to Blue Sky Vision Media and the OCES team for creating this series.
