Each year, the Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability reports on the results of the strategic audit of implementation of the environmental management systems for mandated government departments and agencies.

The report is a requirement of the Commissioner, as set out in the Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability Act 2003.

Since the first strategic audit results were published in 2005, sustainability reporting has continued to be a valuable management framework for the Victorian Government.

The results for 2013-2014 indicate that while trending towards improvement across a number of areas over the five years to 30 June 2014, performance has plateaued and in some areas has begun to decline in the past 12 months.
