keep Victoria beautiful

The Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability Dr Gillian Sparkes was delighted to participate in the Keep Victoria Beautiful Sustainable Cities 2019 Awards Ceremony at Kensington Town Hall on Friday, September 6. This grass roots movement continues to showcase inspiring community and local government initiatives like the #YarraRiverBlitz by the Yarra River Keeper Association; the #KensingtonStreetCompost campaign; Frankston Beach Association’s foreshore revegetation program and the #MelbourneRenewableEnergyProject by the City of Melbourne who were amongst the winners. "These awards acknowledge the significant environmental impact that communities and councils are having in Victorian cities," said Dr Sparkes. Big congratulations to Wyndham City for taking out the ‘Sustainable City of the Year’ award for leadership in using recycled materials in roads and footpaths, its 90 per cent waste diversion plan and proactive support of biodiversity on private land. Great passion from Narelle Debenham too who received the Dame Phyllis Frost Award for her 'Natured Kids' Junior Landcare: 'Helping habitat for wildlife’ program in Frankston. Congratulations to all the nominees and winners and thank you for being champions of nature and protecting our environment.
