Applications are now open for councils to take part in a pilot program to employ Officers for the Protection of the Local Environment (OPLE)

The OPLEs will be employed by EPA and will work closely with local councils to respond to smaller-scale and lower risk waste and pollution complaints such as:

  • litter,
  • noise,
  • dust,
  • small to medium scale illegal dumping, and
  • odour arising from smaller business and industry.

Duties will also include: respond to complaints, formulate information and education activities to support the prevention of pollution, and proactively inspect premises to support compliance.

This 15 month pilot will commence in September 2017 and will employ 10 OPLEs. The outcomes of this program will inform a potential future state-wide rollout of an OPLE network.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 9 June 2017. For further queries, please email epa.reform@delwp.vic.gov.au and/or read the EOI Guideline OPLE Pilot Program
