This independent review was commissioned jointly by the Victorian and Australian governments, as Parties to the five Victorian Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs) and was the first Major Event Review (MER) initiated by the Parties under Victoria’s modernised RFAs.

The independent MER panel included Victoria’s Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability, Dr Gillian Sparkes AM; Victorian Traditional Owner, Ms Katherine Mullett and independent forestry expert, Dr Tony Bartlett AFSM.

The panel conducted this MER from March 2021 to April 2022, considered detailed analysis of available information and data on RFA matters and undertook extensive engagement with traditional owners in addition to comprehensive public and targeted stakeholder consultation programs.

The report includes 37 recommendations across eight themes:

  5. Other values
  6. Traditional Owners
  7. Ecologically sustainable forest management
