An end of year message from the Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability Dr Gillian Sparkes.
"As we close out this year, I wanted to share some important news.
Earlier this month, the Victorian Government released its response to the recommendations included in the 2018 State of the Environment, State of the Yarra and its Parklands and State of the Forests reports.
I am heartened by the Government’s acceptance either in full, in principle or in part of 30 of a total 31 recommendations from across the three reports.
The recommendations are based on the scientific assessments included in the reports and developed through extensive consultation with valued stakeholders.
Partnerships are the cornerstone of our work, and I would like to personally thank the many collaborators who have worked with us towards this significant achievement.
I would also like to acknowledge the deep significance in the Victorian Government’s support for the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to enhance our environmental reporting program. The SDGs focus on partnerships that mobilise and share knowledge, expertise and technology to support their achievement. Further reinforcing what we know, that is only by working together that we can encourage decision making that facilitates ecologically sustainable development and continue purposeful action to alleviate climate change impacts and ecosystem decline.
