OCES at the Royal Society of Victoria’s Future Thinking Forum

Event

The forum was held in conjunction with Emergency Management Victoria, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, the Bureau of Meteorology Science into Action and Scientell. The event was held in Chatham House format and was attended by Bureau of Meteorology State Operations Manager Andrew Tupper, Resilient Melbourne’s Chief Resilience Officer Toby Kent as well as RMIT's Cities and Sustainability representative Wendy Steele and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning's Director Planning Systems John Phillips.

The forum presented two extreme weather and climate scenarios, focusing on discussion around solutions and future implementation of policy. The Commissioner delivered discussion with a focus on the need for operational capability, data monitoring and analytics as well as the role of good governance and environmental economic accounting. In the evening Dr. Sparkes also delivered a keynote on the Interim State of Environment.  

The forum offered the opportunity for senior Victorian government leaders to share ideas and expertise on maintaining the livability and resilience of Victoria. Photos via Lead Scientist Amanda Caples and RSV Victoria.
