Cultural Landscape Health and Management

The Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability and the Office team recognise and pay our respects to the rich culture of Australia’s First Peoples during International Day of the World’s Indigenous People on August 9. The Cultural Landscape Health and Management chapter of the 2018 Victorian State of the Environment report aims to reflect the priorities of Victoria’s First Peoples and their pursuit for self-determination in managing and looking after Country. The report acknowledges that Aboriginal existence and identity is underpinned by healthy cultural landscapes; and that Victoria’s unique landscapes are host to one of the oldest continuing cultures in the world.

We invite you to explore the State of the Environment 2018 report chapter on Cultural Landscape Health and Management this week and review the Commissioner’s Recommendations in regard to better representing Traditional Owners in environmental reporting for Victoria. Over the next 13 weeks, we look forward to sharing one of the 13 themes of the Victorian State of the Environment 2018 Report each week with you.
