The Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability and Office team recognise and pay our respects to the rich culture of Australia’s First Peoples during NAIDOC week. This year’s NAIDOC theme, ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future’ acknowledges the elements to reform as set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This reform is reflected in the 2018 Victorian State of the Environment report - tabled in March 2019 - where the theme Cultural Landscape Health and Management and Recommendation 1, aims to incorporate the environmental, social, economic, spiritual, cultural and health and wellbeing values of Victoria’s Traditional Owners, Registered Aboriginal Parties and Aboriginal Victorians. Our future state of environment reporting will reflect the priorities of Victoria’s First Peoples and their pursuit for self-determination in managing and looking after Country.
